Two Pittsburgh Public School officers were injured after a fight broke out Thursday afternoon at Pittsburgh Oliver Citywide Academy on the city’s North Side, officials said.

The two officers’ injuries were “not too severe,” Pittsburgh Public School spokeswoman Ebony Pugh told the Tribune-Review. The two individuals planned to go to Concentra, a special urgent care, to evaluate the extent of their injuries.

The fight broke out among six Oliver Citywide Academy students in a classroom in the Marshall-Shadeland building, then spilled into a hallway and outside, Pugh said. Pittsburgh Police were called in to break up the fight and disperse the students.

No students were apprehended by police, though some or all of the six involved could face disciplinary action, Pugh said.

Pittsburgh Oliver Citywide Academy students each have individualized education program guidelines, or IEPs, Pugh said. The school was created for students with emotional support needs.

Students at the school returned for in-person classes Monday, after being sent home for remote education Sept. 29 when a teacher was attacked by a 15-year-old student in an empty classroom, according to police.

After the assault, officials said they put upgraded safety measures in place, including more security guards, two-way radios in every classroom, a revised enrollment process and separate entrances.
