Two 11-year-old girls are hospitalized after being hit by a vehicle Wednesday afternoon in the North Side neighborhood of Pittsburgh.

Allegheny County dispatchers confirmed that two people were hit and taken by medics to the hospital after the incident, which was reported shortly after 4:30 pm.

Police said one girl was unresponsive at the scene of the crash.

Both girls were taken to UPMC Children’s Hospital, where one is listed in critical condition and the other is stable.

According to initial investigations, the woman who was driving the car had just made a left turn from Jacksonia Street onto Brighton Road when the girls attempted to cross the street. The driver was cooperative and stayed on the scene.

First responders who were in the area on a separate, unrelated call witnessed the crash and were able to help both girls immediately.
