One person is dead after being struck on the Parkway East early Monday.

The Allegheny County Medical Examiner’s office has identified the victim as 24-year-old Dax Antonio Hernandez-Reyes. His hometown was not available.

Pennsylvania State Police said the crash occurred around 1 a.m. on the inbound side near Edgewood. Three vehicles were involved.

Police said one vehicle had crashed and was overturned on the highway. The driver got out of that vehicle and walked to the shoulder of the roadway with the help of two Good Samaritans who stopped on the shoulder.

Another vehicle traveling inbound began to take a curve just before the overturned vehicle. Police said the driver attempted to avoid the overturned vehicle, but couldn’t. The second vehicle then hit the guide rail and proceeded toward the shoulder, striking the three people on the side of the road.

Hernandez-Reyes, the driver of the first vehicle, was taken to UPMC Mercy and later died. The other people who were struck were transported to local hospitals for their injuries.

State police are investigating.
