A man died after jumping into the Allegheny River early Saturday, and a second man who dove in after him was rescued, according to Pittsburgh police.

First responders were called to the Ninth Street Bridge around 3:30 a.m. on Saturday for reports of witnesses who saw a man run from the Downtown side of the bridge, climb the railing and jump into the Allegheny.

A second man jumped into the water in an attempt to save him, Pittsburgh police said.

Pittsburgh River Rescue pulled the second man safely from the water as EMS divers searched for the first man. A short time later, divers recovered the man’s body.

His identity has not been released.

Police are investigating.
