Weekend trips are big thing for 2019, according to Elle magazine. Driving the “bite-sized travel” trend are factors like cheap flights and diverse transportation and accommodation options.

Where to go from here? These three cities are within easy travel distance of Western Pennsylvania and offer more than enough to do for a weekend:

1. New York City: Broadway shows, cutting-edge art and food, historical sights, outdoor attractions, diverse neighborhoods, sights and sounds of the concrete jungle — the Big Apple has them all.

2. Chicago: View the skyscrapers via a river cruise or observation deck, hit one of many shopping districts, check out the public art and don’t forget to try the city’s signature deep-dish pizza.

3. Washington, D.C.: Check out the (free) historical attractions on the National Mall, or immerse yourself in the youthful vibe of the city’s art galleries, farmers markets and Sunday brunch scene.
