A January AAA survey on automated vehicles says only about 12% of drivers would trust riding in a self-driving car.
Driver concerns include knowing who will be legally responsible in the event of a crash, having laws to make sure self-driving cars are safe and knowing how vulnerable the vehicles will be to hackers.
What would make drivers feel safer in an automated vehicle:
• The ability to take over control if needed (72%)
• Having a human backup driver (69%)
• Rigorous testing and inspections of the car (47%)
• Seeing or experiencing a demonstration prior to getting into a self-driving car (42%).
