Out & About: Westmoreland Chamber bestows annual awards

In the old “Stone Soup” folk tale, some hungry travelers entice a group of villagers to combine their meager provisions into a hearty pot of soup big enough to feed everyone.
The Westmoreland County Chamber of Commerce borrowed the theme for its annual business meeting and awards luncheon, held Oct. 10 in the Ramada Greensburg Hotel and Conference Center.
Guests were invited to bring nonperishable foods for the Westmoreland County Food Bank, resulting in more than 400 items collected, according to Tricia Thomas, the chamber’s director of communications and event planning.
In front of about 350 attendees, these honorees were recognized:
• ATHENA Award: Lisa Frederick, president of Unity Printing, presented by Dan Wagner of First Commonwealth Bank.
• Business of the Year: Blue Sky Sign Co. and owners Bob and April Gonze, presented by chamber President/CEO Chad Amond, board chair Michael Storms and vice chair Christina Jansure.
• Chamber Member of the Year: Jessica Urbanik, chief relationship manager for GOAL Magazine and director of community relations and education for SecondHalf Coach Wealth Management, presented by Amond, Storms and Jansure.
• Not-for-Profit of the Year, Westmoreland Children First, represented by board president Veronica Ent, presented by Stacey Winfield of S&T Bank.
