Supporters of the Ligonier Valley YMCA took a look at “how we got here” at the Y’s third annual Legacy Dinner, held Nov. 22 at Laurel Mountain Ski Resort in Ligonier Township.

The program included a short history of the Y, the year in review and testimonials on the organization’s impact on the community. It also included a “where we’re going” segment, previewing future plans.

Also on the bill was recognition of the Legacy Award Recipient, an honor also in its third year that goes to a person who has been instrumental in supporting the Y mission, which recently included a major addition and renovation project resulting in a new fitness center, gymnasium and Excela Health medical facilities.

Honoree was the Rev. Robert Cummings, who was accompanied by his wife, Cate Cummings. Longtime residents of Ligonier, where Cummings was pastor of Covenant Presbyterian Church, the couple recently moved to Philadelphia for a new pastoral call.

Asked how he felt about the award, Cummings said, “I’m truly honored — that’s the short version. I never considered myself on a par (with previous recipients).”

Dinner proceeds benefit the Y’s financial assistance program, aiding people who need Y programs but cannot afford to pay, said CEO Larry Stormer.

Joining Stormer on the dinner committee were Kim Kramer, Jo Rossi and Chris Plummer.
