Ligonier Valley Historical Society offered an “epicurean adventure” with its 28th annual Tastes of the Town held April 25 at Laurel Mountain Ski Resort in Ligonier Township.
Part of the adventure was the trek up the mountain and through the woods to the ski lodge, offering sweeping vistas of the Ligonier Valley below.
The rest — and best part — of the adventure was sampling the foods: a culinary cornucopia of appetizers, entrees and desserts from some of the area’s finest restaurants, cafes, bakeries and delis.
Every year, diners cast votes for their favorites, with the winner awarded the Big Fork Award, which went to the ribs, au gratin potatoes and carrots from Foggy Mountain Lodge and Restaurant in Stahlstown.
Guests also take their chances on raffle prizes of items donated by local shops and galleries.
Event proceeds benefit educational programs at the Compass Inn Museum in Laughlintown, and supports the society’s mission of “Keeping Our History Alive.”
“Giving back has never tasted so good,” says LVHS executive director Theresa Gay Rohall.
