Conventional wisdom says that early humans domesticated dogs for the help they provided with hunting.
For most dogs nowadays, their purpose is to be man’s best friend — but that doesn’t mean they’ve given up their love of the hunt. Even the most pampered pet perks up when a squirrel saunters by.
On April 14, the Yukon-based Pet Adoption League got into the spirit of the season by offering a Canine Easter Egg Hunt in Hempfield Park.
Rain did not deter dogs of all shapes and sizes from coming out (with their humans) to sniff out the treat-filled plastic eggs.
Not surprisingly, a golden-Lab mix named Charlie, owned by Wendy Mull of Greensburg, turned out to be one of the top egg hunters.
The event was organized by PAL volunteer Julie Hillwig of Hempfield.
