If you’re looking to hear good music by some up-and-coming performers but don’t want to spend a lot of money, consider attending a recital by students who study through the Seton Hill University Community Music Program.
The price is right for all pocketbooks — it’s free. And the set list might surprise you.
Seven young musicians — ranging in age from 5 to 17 — shared their talents during a Jan. 10 recital in the university’s performing arts center in downtown Greensburg. The program ranged from Johann Sebastian Bach to Stephen Foster to Led Zeppelin.
Among the performers were Madison Jackson and Evelyn Markle, flute; Zhiyi Tang, flute and piano; Amanda Wang, piano; and Amos McConahey and Zachary Schleger, guitar.
Instructors in attendance included Michele Boulet, flute, Thomas Glovier and Edward M. Kuhn Jr., piano; and Brian Weaver, guitar. Michelle Walters is the Seton Hill Community Arts Program director.
Seen in the audience: Morrie Brand, Sharon Enfield, Carl and Lorna Vulcan, Chris Jackson, Hannah Jackson; Brian, Renee, Jacob and Megan Schleger; and Chris, Joanna and Lillian Markle.
The next free recital is scheduled for 6:30-8 p.m. Jan. 18 at the same location. For information, visit seton hill.edu/events/.
