Out & About: Action for Animals boosters enjoy a walk in the park
A brief afternoon downpour couldn’t dampen spirits at Action for Animals Humane Society’s annual Walk for the Animals, on May 19 at Twin Lakes Park in Unity.
Participants came on two feet and four to enjoy a walk around the lakes, a pet blessing, food and vendor sales, basket raffles, prizes, “Goofy Games” and contests, including a pet costume contest.
For more than 30 years, the Derry Township no-kill shelter has provided care for abused, abandoned and stray dogs and cats in a facility that includes a cageless open-air cattery, a dog park and walking paths, private visitation rooms and covered outdoor play areas.
Among other services are a low cost spay/neuter program and free board for animals of domestic violence victims.
Among those welcoming pets and owners to a fun day in the park were shelter manager LuAnn Hutcheson, assistant manager Pam Reese and board president Rita Whiteman.
