The American Cancer Society’s 2019 Real Men Wear Pink campaign in Westmoreland and Fayette counties kicked off Aug. 22, with 12 area men each vowing to raise $2,500 by the end of October for Breast Cancer Awareness Month.
On Dec. 2, some of the group and other campaign supporters gathered at SpringHill Suites Pittsburgh Latrobe in Unity to celebrate the end of a successful effort.
“The campaign raised over $77,000, coming in 36th in the nation out of 223 campaigns,” said Dawn Keefer, ACS senior community development manager. “Fun fact — this campaign raised more than campaigns in Philadelphia, Los Angeles, Nashville, the entire state of Maine and Baltimore, just to name a few.”
Funds raised support ACS programs for research, early detection and prevention of breast cancer and patient support.
High achiever in the group was Mike Lordi, from Elliott Group, who raised $17,937 and placed 68th out of 3,250 participants nationwide.
Joining Lordi at the event from the Real Men Wear Pink Class of 2019 were Dominic Caringola, Jeff Smail Jr. and wife Mandy, Craig Mankins and wife Lisa, Jim McMahan and wife Lisa, Dave Krygowski and wife Leslie and Daniel Clara, his children Nick, Olivia and Rocco, and his parents Erika and Aldo Clara.
