Stuntpig has announced it is trading in its food truck wheels for a more permanent location — a sandwich shop in Squirrel Hill.

The announcement came this week on the food truck’s social media pages, eliciting many reactions from excited Pittsburghers. The shop will be located at the former Bull River Taco location, 1707 Murray Ave., near the intersection with Forbes.

“The truck was kind of an entry point to us, but it has been limiting,” Stuntpig co-owner Ariel Alexander told TribLive. “We’re lifelong cooks, and to be able to be in a space and have pluming and a roof … we’re very excited.”

If you haven’t heard of Stuntpig, here’s how it describes its fare:

“We sling a rotating selection of smoked meat sandwiches & sides.” its website says. “We bring in pasture-raised pork, whole Amish Gerber chickens, and regional fresh beef that we cure, smoke and prepare by hand on the truck, making our own ham, pastrami, bacon, roast beef and more from scratch! We complement our meats with an array of pickles and sauces made with fresh produce and herbs. We round it out with a weekly rotating selection of bright, flavorful veg-forward sides.”

Alexander has a background in animal butchery, and co-owner Cody Maze has a background in fine dining.

Stuntpig said on Instagram that it’s still not to be classified as barbecue — and there will still be no fries.

“People have incorrectly branded us as barbecue, and we’re really trying to correct that,” Alexander said. “We smoke all of our meat, but the emphasis is on curing. It’s always been a bit of a garbled message with people calling it barbecue.”

The food truck plans two more appearances — details will be forthcoming, Stuntpig said on its social media pages.

Though there are no official opening dates for the sandwich shop, Stuntpig said to expect some “soft open dates” followed by lunch and dinner services. Alexander said it could open as soon as June.

“We cannot begin to convey how excited we are to welcome you to our new space and feed y’all once again,” Stuntpig said on social media.
