Spectro Dolce returns to Monroeville
Spectro Dolce Confectionery is officially open for business in the Monroeville Mall, providing sweet treats to customers and job and learning opportunities for those with autism.
“Spectro Dolce is part of our Autism Employment Network. It’s a direct paid work experience for individuals with autism and other forms of neurodivergence. This is part of our coaching center,” Autism Employment Network president Bryan Kiger said.
The confectionery had previously been located on William Penn Highway. After three years, leasing issues forced the Spectro Dolce in Monroeville to shut its doors and look for a new home. The confectionery has now taken over an old Key Bank location.
Spectro Dolce celebrated their new Monroeville location with a ribbon-cutting ceremony on Sept. 12 and a free chocolate dipping party on Sept. 16. The confectionery is now offering a selection of Perry’s ice creams and fresh Belgian waffles in addition to their assorted truffles and fudges.
“All of our associates are on the spectrum. They spend about six to 12 months with us learning basic job skills like clocking in, reading a schedule, and showing up on time. We do make and sell the sweets, but at the end of the day, our goal is always training people on the spectrum to work and gain meaningful employment,” network director Heather Szurscewski said.
Spectro Dolce will feature kids activities with balloon artistry by Sean on Sept 23. A percentage of the profits from the event will be donated to the Gateway School District PTO. During the month of September anyone can register to win free chocolate for a year.
The new opening was a wonderful homecoming.
“We at Spectro Dolce love Monroeville as much as it loves us! I get overwhelmed just thinking about it. I’m tickled that we’re back in Monroeville, bigger, better, and more convenient, to say the least,” ambassador Robert Hester said.
Spectro Dolce is located at 711 Mall Circle Drive in Monroeville. Hours are 11 a.m.-5 p.m. Tuesday through Saturday. It is closed on Sunday and Monday. For more information, visit spectrodolce.com.
