Peppi’s in Point Breeze on Wednesday, June 12, 2024.

Peppi’s Old Tyme Sandwich Shop has officially closed one of its three locations in Pittsburgh.

The Point Breeze location on Penn Avenue, near Braddock Avenue, shut its doors indefinitely last week, according to owner Lou Bosser. The Strip District and North Side shops remain open.

Bosser said an offer for the property was made that was “too good to be true.”

“(The) offer had nothing to do with the business,” he said. “The business was very, very good.”

The closure was sad, however, as Bosser said the Point Breeze location was open for 20 years. Before that, the building housed Scotty’s Diner.

It was the fourth Peppi’s location. Besides the two that remain open, the third was located Downtown and closed because of the pandemic, he said.

“We just make a decision, and we’re getting older,” he said.

He said he’s considering retirement avenues.

Bosser said all of the Point Breeze employees took positions at other Peppi’s stores. He said he is unsure of what will take the Point Breeze location’s place.

“When someone makes a good offer you can’t refuse, that’s what happens,” he said. “Sometimes you can’t pass stuff up like that.”
