Murray Avenue, in the heart of Squirrel Hill’s business district, is known for its stretch of popular eateries.

But lately the number of them is dwindling — especially for breakfast options.

The restaurant chain Eat’n Park announced on Tuesday that it is permanently closing its Squirrel Hill location at 5 p.m. on Jan. 24. The restaurant has been open for 45 years.

“We are grateful to our team members for creating Smiles for our friends and neighbors in the Squirrel Hill community for the past 45 years,” said Eat’n Park spokeswoman Courtney Caprara. “All team members will be offered continuous employment within Eat’n Park’s Hospitality Group.

“To our guests in the Squirrel Hill community – whether you started your day with us, ended your evening with us, or visited anytime in between, we are grateful you chose Eat’n Park Restaurants.”

No reason was given for the closure.

The announced closing of Eat’n Park in Squirrel Hill comes on the heels of last Tuesday’s statement from Pamela’s Diner co-owners Gail Klingensmith and Pam Cohen that the Squirrel Hill restaurant location was closing, largely due to the covid-19 pandemic.

Pamela’s Squirrel Hill location was open nearly as long as Eat’n Park’s was.

“It’s been a great 42 years, but now the Squirrel Hill location of Pittsburgh’s iconic Pamela’s Diner – their first location – will close,” said a statement from the owners.

All other Pamela’s restaurant locations will remain open including Shadyside, Oakland, the Strip District and Mt. Lebanon.
