2 more Pittsburgh restaurants to close their doors

Two more Pittsburgh restaurants are set to close their doors soon.

Oak Hill Post, based in the city’s Brookline neighborhood, announced its closure via social media Friday after more than seven years in business.

“After seven great years we have decided that the time to hang up our aprons is now,” wrote owners Christian Schulz and Rebecca Nicholson. “I understand that this may come as a shock, and some may lament the loss of a great restaurant.

“To me, though, this is not a time for sadness, but a time of celebration. Oak Hill Post was a huge success, and one of our greatest achievements in life. We are grateful that we were able to share it with you all.”

Oak Hill Post had recently transitioned to a dinner-only venue, after operating as a breakfast and lunch place from the beginning. The Brookline Boulevard restaurant’s last dinner service was held Saturday, but the owners plan to offer a limited selection of heat-at-home meals. The to-go meals will be available for pickup on weekends from Feb. 8 through March 15.

The other restaurant, Bonfire Food & Drink in Pittsburgh’s South Side neighborhood, will close by mid-February, the restaurant said in a social media post Tuesday.

The East Carson Street restaurant was opened six years ago by chef Chris Bonfili, offering specialty cocktails, wood-fired entrees and Sunday brunch.

The decision to close the restaurant comes after the death of Bonfili’s father, the social media post said.

“Although my passion for the business still runs deep, my commitment and desire to live the chef life has waned,” Bonfili wrote. “With my children in high school and middle school, I’m looking forward to focusing on my family and living more of the dad life for this next chapter.”

The restaurant’s hours will be altered in the coming weeks, Bonfili said. The last brunch service will be held Sunday and the final dinner service is scheduled for Feb. 15.

The closing follows a series of business closures in the South Side within the past year, including 12th Street concert venue Club Cafe and East Carson Street’s Spork Pit Barbecue.
