‘Jesus Shoes’ filled with holy water sell out for $3,000

Is it the holy water in the soles?
Perhaps it’s the crucifix on the laces.
Or maybe it’s the stitched “MT 14:25” on the side.
We know it can’t be the bargain basement price: $3,000.
Whatever it is, the Jesus Shoe is one hot item. The sneakers that appear to be from Nike were offered up on Tuesday and have now sold out.

OK, but the shoes aren’t from Nike. They come from MSCHF (get it: mischief). The company’s head of commerce, Daniel Greenberg, talked with the New York Post. He said the Brooklyn-based product design company made about two dozen of the shoes as a way of getting a shot in at “collab culture.”
“We thought of that Arizona Iced Tea and Adidas collab, where they were selling shoes that (plugged) a beverage company that sells iced tea at bodegas,” Greenberg said. “So we wanted to make a statement about how absurd collab culture has gotten.”
To build the parody shoes, MSCHF took Nike’s Air Max 97 shoes (so that part is legit, although Nike almost certainly wasn’t on board with this). MSCHF injected the soles with holy water from the Jordan River and blessed by a priest. “I have a friend in Israel,” Greenberg told the Post.
“We were wondering, what would a collab with Jesus Christ look like?” Greenberg told the Post. “As a Jew myself, the only thing I knew was that he walked on water.”
MSCHF says the shoes are made with 100% frankincense wool and the laces come with a silver and gold crucifix. They stitched “MT 14:25” on the side. The famous Bible quote (in case you don’t know), reads “And in the fourth watch of the night he came to them, walking on the sea.”
The Post reported the company helped push the shoes by sending six pairs to YouTubers, including rapper A$AP Rocky. By 11 a.m. Tuesday, the shoes were up for sale online. But they sold out super fast.
But don’t fret, it appears you can still get a pair if you want ’em.
One of the lucky ones who snagged a pair early seems to have put them up for sale on the StockX website. Of course, the asking price has a bit of a markup: $3,999.
And MSCHF’s website says it will have new biweekly offerings of the shoes. But at the rate they are going, you’ll need a miracle.
