Westmoreland Choral Society members are hoping Joseph’s “Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat” can help provide coats for others as well.

The society’s Oct. 4 concert, which features music from the Andrew Lloyd Webber and Tim Rice musical, will kick off a partnership between the society, the Community Clothes Closet in New Kensington and the St. Vincent de Paul Society in Greensburg.

“One of our choral society members is a board member at Community Clothes Closet,” WCS General Manager Susan Mahady said. “She suggested their organization for donating coats.”

Anticipating quite a few donations, WCS officials reached out to St. Vincent de Paul in Greensburg.

“They have a lot of need as well,” Mahady said.

Based on the “coat of many colors” story from the Bible’s Book of Genesis, “Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat” was nominated for a half-dozen Tony Awards during its initial Broadway run in 1982.

Attendees at the Oct. 4 performance are asked to bring a gently worn coat to donate.

“We normally just raise money for our organization, to provide these concerts,” Mahady said. “But it seemed like the right theme with the music, and the timing worked out really well. With the concert happening in October, these donated coats will be able to do some good for the people who receive them.”

The concert will be at 7:30 p.m. Oct. 4 at Seton Hill University’s Performing Arts Center, 100 Harrison Ave. in Greensburg.

Tickets are $15 for adults and $5 for students. The evening will include a 50-50 raffle and auction baskets.
