The Smashing Pumpkins won’t be playing in Pittsburgh “Tonight, Tonight,” but they will be here this fall.

The alternative rock giants will play Oct. 22 at PPG Paints Arena with support from Jane’s Addiction and Meg Myers.

The Smashing Pumpkins came to prominence in 1993 with “Cherub Rock” from their major-label debut, “Siamese Dream.” The band’s popularity then exploded with their double album, “Mellon Collie and the Infinite Sadness,” which sold more than 10 million copies in the U.S. The band officially broke up in 2000. Band leader Billy Corgan revived the group in 2004 with drummer Jimmy Chamberlain and various iterations of the band toured through the 2000s.

The Smashing Pumpkins reunited in 2018 with three of the four original members: Corgan, Chamberlain and guitarist James Iha (only bassist D’arcy Wretzky opted out). That reunion featured a stop in Pittsburgh on Aug. 4, 2018, with a nearly three-hour show.

Before the reunion, the band had played smaller venues in the area, like the A.J. Palumbo Center on Oct. 9, 2007, Mr. Smalls Theatre on July 4, 2010, Stage AE on Dec. 6, 2012, and the Carnegie Music Hall of Homestead on June 16, 2015.

Jane’s Addiction is no slouch in the alternative rock department either, with its frontman Perry Farrell the founder of the Lollapalooza music festival.

Tickets for the show go on sale at 10 a.m. Friday, with a pre-sale at 10 a.m. Thursday.
