Pittsburgh stations to play Crosby, Stills, Nash and Young marathon, ‘Alice’s Restaurant’ on Thanksgiving

Turn on the Thanksgiving tunes Thursday for a Crosby, Stills, Nash and Young marathon on WYEP and the annual WDVE airing of Arlo Guthrie’s 18-minute-plus song “Alice’s Restaurant.”
As much a tradition as turkey on Thanksgiving, WDVE will air “Alice’s Restaurant” at noon Thursday when cooks throughout the region pause to listen to the classic.
The anti-authoritarian anthem, based on Guthrie’s arrest for illegally dumping trash after a 1965 Thanksgiving dinner with friends, will be played across the country on numerous radio stations.
WDVE has been playing “Alice’s Restaurant” at noon on Thanksgiving for at least 35 years, according to Bill Cameron, production director for WDVE/ESPN Radio/Steelers Radio Network.
The song is such a tradition that the radio station doesn’t advertise it or post a notice of its airing on its website.
“It’s so ingrained and people know we will play it,” Cameron said.
WYEP 91.3 FM also continues its holiday tradition Thursday focusing on a particular artist. This year, the station will play the collective and solo work of Crosby, Stills, Nash and Young from 6 a.m. to 6 p.m.
