Peter Gabriel is back this year with a new studio album and tour, which will be making a stop on Saturday, Sept. 23 at PPG Paints Arena in Pittsburgh.
The English singer-songwriter and musician’s new album “i/o” is his first album of new material since 2002’s “Up.” The release of the album will linked to the moon, literally. Gabriel said in a release that the lunar phases will guide the release plan of the album with a new song revealed each full moon during the year.
So far there have been three songs released: “Panopticom” in January, “The Court” in February and “Playing for Time” in March.
On Tuesday Gabriel added 13 new dates to his 25-date North American tour, which will include stops in Washington D.C., Buffalo, N.Y., Columbus, Ohio, Cleveland, Detroit, Milwaukee and other cities.
Tickets for the Pittsburgh show go on sale at 10 a.m. Friday, March 24. Members of the Peter’s Fan Club mailing list will have access to a special presale starting Tuesday.
For the tour Gabriel will be joined by regular band players Tony Levin, David Rhodes and Manu Katché.
After being part of the band Genesis, Gabriel embarked on a successful solo career. His 1986 album “So” contained several hits including “Sledgehammer,” “In Your Eyes” and “Big Time.”
He was inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame as a member of Genesis in 2010, and as a solo artist in 2014.
