Guitar legend Eric Clapton is finally going to play in Pittsburgh.

Last year Clapton removed a performance scheduled for Sept. 16 at PPG Paints Arena from his tour and replaced it with a gig at Boston’s TD Garden for the same date. It happened to be the same night that Elton John was playing at PNC Park.

Now Clapton has announced a date at PPG Paints Arena on Sept. 8 with guest Jimmie Vaughan.

Eric Clapton’s band for these shows will include Doyle Bramhall II, Paul Carrack, Nathan East, Sonny Emory and Chris Stainton with Sharon White and Katie Kissoon on backing vocals

It’s the kickoff date for a limited series of concert dates across North America. After Pittsburgh, he’ll play Toronto, St. Louis, Minneapolis and Denver. All the dates are in September.

The newly announced shows will be Clapton’s only North American dates for 2023. He is also playing a series of shows in Tokyo in April and will do a pair of Jeff Beck tribute shows at the Royal Albert Hall in London in May.

Fan club presale for tickets begins at 10 a.m. Tuesday with the general public sale starting at 10 a.m. Friday.

Clapton, 77, joined The Yardbirds in 1963, then played with John Mayall and the Bluesbreakers, Cream and Blind Faith. In addition to his solo career, he also has played with Derek and the Dominos, with whom he recorded the signature song “Layla.”

His other hits include the Bob Marley cover “I Shot the Sheriff,” “Wonderful Tonight” and “Tears in Heaven.”
