An evening of nautical-themed summer fun will begin at 7 p.m. June 22 at The Westmoreland Museum of American Art in Greensburg.
The Summer Saturday event will include viewing of nautical-themed art in the galleries, “beach” food and a cash bar. At dusk, the horror classic “Jaws” will be screened outside with live musical accompaniment by the Westmoreland Symphony.
In case of rain, activities and the screening will move into the museum’s community room.
The date also will serve as an opening reception for “Cavomyrt,” an exhibition of wall assemblages by Brenda Stumpf.
The name of the exhibition, “derived from the phrase ‘cave of my heart,’ consists of elaborate wall assemblages that function as enchanted reliquaries to love, innocence and intimacy,” the museum says. “These works have been created using items such as removed antique wallpaper, childhood dresses, objects and toys from her youth, plastic flowers, a rusted out wheel barrel, chandelier pieces, piano wire, sound reels and film negatives. The pieces are encapsulated with layers of sand dusted mediums where they’ve become almost crystalline and calcified.”
Admission is free. Registration is requested, but not required, at 888.718.4253 or showclix.com.
