The Pittsburgh Creative Arts Festival, returning under a new name after a pandemic-year hiatus, will be held Thursday through Saturday at the DoubleTree by Hilton in Green Tree.

Under new ownership, the festival will offer more than 50 classes in knitting, crochet, quilting, weaving and other creative arts, along with vendors, special displays and events, community service opportunities and make-it, take-it activities in the Maker Space.

The event was founded in 2005 as the Pittsburgh Knit & Crochet Festival.

“It’s going to be a whole bunch of fun,” said festival owner Laura Regan, who also is a longtime festival vendor under the name Created 4 U by Laura.

Among class topics are:

Knitting: Socks, scarves, sweaters, Fair Isle techniques, basic cable, beading, tatting and more.

Crochet: Tunisian crochet, crochet on canvas, free-form crochet and more.

Quilting and sewing.

Other: Beading, dyeing, silk painting, polymer clay jewelry, kumihimo braiding, starting a craft business and more.

Class fees vary from $30 to $65. Some children’s classes also are planned with a $20 fee.

The vendor marketplace will feature new and returning vendors from as far as Colorado, Florida and Vermont, Regan said.

Seating will be limited for each day’s free drop-in, make-and-take activity.

Attendees can bring U.S. size 7 or 8 knitting needles or a size I or H crochet hook to create a soap sack to be donated to a local food pantry. Pattern and yarn will be provided. Donations of new, wrapped bars of soap will be accepted.

Fabrics, notions, yarns and crafts also will be accepted each day at the registration area for the Salvation Army Greater Pittsburgh Women’s Auxiliary Fabric Fair, planned for Sept. 18 at the Salvation Army Pittsburgh Temple Worship & Service Center, 1060 McNeilly Road, Mt. Lebanon.

Food concessions will offer a variety of soups, sandwiches, sides, wraps and grab-and-go items, along with buffets and sit-down dining options.

Online ticket purchase and class preregistration have closed. Admission of $15 per day and class registration at the door will be payable in cash only.
