Seth Meyers calls Ted Cruz a 'jagoff' after Pittsburgh vs. Paris comments
Yinz are gonna love this.
Late-night host Seth Meyers — whose father is a Pittsburgh native — took time on Thursday’s “Late Night” show on NBC to deliver a Pittsburgh-centric clap back at Sen. Ted Cruz’s recent comments. Cruz said that by rejoining the Paris Climate Agreement, President Biden is “more interested in the views of the citizens of Paris than in the jobs of the citizens of Pittsburgh.”
Meyers even used a news clip from WTAE-TV’s broadcast to illustrate his point.
“For one thing, the Paris Climate Accord isn’t about Paris. It was signed in Paris,” Meyers said. “Are you really this stupid?”
Meyers went on clarify that “Ted Cruz isn’t that stupid. … (He knows) full well that the city of Pittsburgh voluntarily followed the Paris Agreement even after Trump withdrew.”
But the best part of his rant was when he slipped into dead-on Pittsburghese to address the three reasons why Pittsburgh is better than Paris.
“Anyone who’s been to both places knows the ’Burgh is just as pretty — if not prettier — than Paris,” Meyers intoned. “We’ve got more bridges than Venice, three rivers to Paris’ one, and last I checked you ain’t gonna find no incline in the City of Light.”
Spot on! (Although, to be fair, Paris does have an incline: The Montmartre Funicular. Just sayin’.)
Of course, Meyers saved the best cut for last: “So, Ted Cruz, to use the local parlance of my father’s ancestral land, ‘You’re a jagoff.’ ”
