Pittsburgh Pop podcast: Talking writers’ strike, WPCW-TV drops The CW, ‘Ted Lasso,’ ‘Dodgeball’ sequel

In this episode of the “Pittsburgh Pop” podcast, host Tim Benz and TV Talk columnist Rob Owen discuss Pittsburgh pop culture news of the moment, including last week’s news that WPCW-TV will drop its affiliation with The CW and how that may (or may not) open up another possible home for Pirates and/or Penguins games after AT&T SportsNet disbands. While broadcast channels in Las Vegas and Phoenix have picked up sports telecast rights from regional sports networks, in both cases the companies buying the rights could ammortize the cost over multiple stations in markets with an interest in the team, which wouldn’t appear to be the case for WPCW and its owner, Paramount Global.
Sticking with the sports theme, Owen and Benz also discuss the prospect of a “Dodgeball” sequel and the final season of “Ted Lasso,” which seems to think it’s “M*A*S*H” with more drama and 50-minute episodes.
The pair also discuss the latest in the writers’ strike.
Owen also gives a thumb’s up to “Queen Charlotte: A Bridgerton Story,” which he thinks is better than the original, and announces next week’s podcast guest, Sally Wiggin, who will be on to talk about the series finale of “Succession.”
