In this episode of the “Pittsburgh Pop” podcast, host Tim Benz and TV Talk columnist Rob Owen discuss Pittsburgh pop culture news of the moment, and this week they welcome a special guest, former WTAE-TV news anchor Sally Wiggin.

Wiggin offers an update on her post-WTAE life (she retired in 2018) and what she’s been up to. She travels and volunteers, including feeding penguins at the Pittsburgh Zoo & Aquarium a few times each week. Always a sports fan, Wiggin watches a lot of ESPN, but not a lot of local TV news.

The trio discuss scripted TV shows they’re watching and break down Sunday’s “Succession” episode that saw fictional news network ATN put its thumb on the scale in favor of one presidential candidate over another.

Wiggin explains the surprising reason she doesn’t watch Apple TV+’s “The Morning Show,” starring Jennifer Aniston and Reese Witherspoon as news anchors.

And Owen previews this week’s debut of the Netflix docu-series “Working,” which was partially filmed in Pittsburgh, including scenes of former President Barack Obama interviewing a couple of working Pittsburghers.
