One of America’s most notable science guys is dropping some knowledge about wearing masks.

Bill Nye took to TikTok on Wednesday night to detail the importance of wearing them in two videos.

To demonstrate the effectiveness of masks, Nye blew into a candle while wearing a scarf around his mouth, then tried doing so while wearing a homemade mask and finally a N95 mask.

With each new facial covering, it became harder for him to blow out the candle.

“The reason we want you to wear a mask is to protect you, sure, but the main reason is to protect me from you and the particles from your respiratory system getting into my respiratory system,” Nye said, concluding the video saying it was “a matter of life and death.”

The two videos have amassed more than 5 million plays total as of Thursday morning.

Nye has 1.8 million followers on TikTok.
