Hawaii’s Iam Tongi claims ‘American Idol’ title

The three-hour season finale of ABC’s “American Idol” ended with Iam Tongi winning the title.

A high school student from Hawaii is the newest “American Idol.”

Iam Tongi, 18, was crowned the winner of season 21 during Sunday’s finale on ABC.

Tongi, Megan Danielle Worship and Colin Stough were the final three contestants. Stough came in third while Worship came in second in fan voting.

Keith Urban was the mentor for the final three singers.

The finale included performances by the three judges — Katy Perry, Lionel Richie and Luke Bryan — as well as contestants from season 21, Kevin Cronin of REO Speedwagon, Jazmine Sullivan, Clay Aiken and Ruben Studdard, Ellie Goulding, James Blunt, Jelly Roll, Kylie Minogue, Lainey Wilson, Lauren Daigle, Pitbull and TLC.

“American Idol” aired on Sundays and Mondays on ABC.
