The Pittsburgh region will continue to see snow showers through Wednesday evening after early morning snow caused slippery roads and traffic issues.
John Darnley, a meteorologist with the National Weather Service in Moon, said the snow was always in the forecast, but because it’s a dry snow, it is slicker than usual and easily sticks to roadways.
“It’s dry, powdery,” he said. “It really doesn’t take much because of the nature of it.”
Darnley said accumulation for Wednesday is expected to be less than an inch, but the region will continue to see bands of snow move through until about 4 p.m. The ridges could continue to see snow through the evening.
Temperatures will stay around the upper 20s and hit a high of 30 degrees Wednesday.
Dispatchers at 911 centers in Allegheny and Westmoreland counties reported having some calls for weather-related crashes, but nothing major.
“Through this afternoon, when you have those little showers come through, they are going to reduce visibility slightly,” Darnley said. “Slow down a little bit.”
