Excuse Warren Agostoni if he feels a little like new Pittsburgh Steelers coach Mike McCarthy.

He’s coming home, too.

Agostoni, a former standout soccer player at Latrobe, has signed with the Pittsburgh Riverhounds USL Academy.

He joined the team this week for preseason practice.

The 16-year-old midfielder spent last season with the Austin FC’s under-18 team of MLS, leaving Latrobe before his junior year.

Just like in Austin, Agostoni is now in a developmental system — of the reigning USL champions — and will train with the first team with an eye toward a call-up.

No stranger to the organization, Agostoni showed promise when he played in the Riverhounds Academy, giving team officials an early glimpse of his talent.

He is the fourth player to join the Riverhounds on a USL Academy contract, the third with WPIAL ties. The others are Wyatt Borso, Anders Bordoy and Pablo Linzoain.

Borso joined the Hounds from the Chicago Fire Academy in 2021, and Bordnoy (Kiski Area) was signed in 2023, and Linzoain (Fox Chapel) in 2024 out of high school.

Agostoni can play as a full member of the team without burning his amateur status.

“Warren is among the most promising prospects our academy has produced, and we’re excited to welcome him back from Austin FC,” Riverhounds sporting director Dane Visser said in a news release. “Our environment and player development pathway are built to help ambitious young players like Warren maximize their potential and pursue professional careers in the game.”

The Riverhounds open their preseason schedule Monday against the Richmond Kickers of the USL League One at the AHN Montour Sports Complex in Coraopolis.
