A twinkling luminary hike is among the newest features at Christmas in Guyasuta, a holiday kickoff for all ages.
The longstanding event is a winter-themed festivity hosted at Camp Guyasuta, accessed off 23rd Street in Sharpsburg.
The wooded campus owned by Scouting America is glowing with thousands of lights – participants can even climb a rope course and zip line through the illuminated displays.
The event is 4 to 9 p.m. Saturday.
A 175-acre winter-themed extravaganza, Christmas in Guyasuta features a trolley ride through the grounds, pictures with Santa and crafts. There is also letter-writing to the North Pole, a campfire and concessions for sale.
The Camp Trading Post will be filled with vendors selling handmade crafts.
“One really cool feature is the luminary hike to the waterfall,” said Director Kim Daniher. “The half-mile Liken Trail leads to an illuminated Washboard Falls. It was so beautiful last year, it should be a favorite!”
Camp staff and volunteers spend days prepping for the event, erecting whimsical décor and making sure the fun is appropriate for all ages.
An illuminated 700-foot zipline will be open for children 11 and older.
Logan Kirchner, assistant ranger, started working at camp just last month.
“I’m excited to see the luminary hike to the waterfall — it’s so beautiful by day, I cannot wait to see if lit up at night,” Kirchner said.
Tickets cost $20 per person through Friday; $15 per person in groups of 12 or more, through Friday; and $25 at the door. There is no group discount at the gate.
Children must be accompanied by an adult.
