More people meant more pumpkins painted by Fox Chapel area families as part of the borough police department’s annual fall event.

Officers hosted Painting Pumpkins with Police on Oct. 18 at the station, which is behind the borough building at 401 Fox Chapel Road.

“We had more people this time,” said organizer Sgt. Craig Sorg. “The crowd did increase from last year. We went through a lot of pumpkins, a lot of food and had a lot of fun.”

The borough brought three pallet loads of pumpkins from an Amish product auction. It equated to 162 pumpkins. Only 14 were left by the end of the three-hour activity.

Sorg said at least 200 people showed up, many in costumes. Officers cooked hot dogs and served snacks.

The movie “It’s The Great Pumpkin, Charlie Brown” played in the background while other arts and crafts activities were happening. Attendees also had an opportunity to explore police vehicles and a Foxwall EMS ambulance.

Animal Protectors of Allegheny Valley brought Guy, a 7-year-old mutt.

He teamed up with Officer Zachary Luffy and served as K-9 officer for a day.

Organizers also collected nonperishable goods for the Blawnox Food Pantry.
