Republican Darren Miller came away with the most votes in the race for four open Murrysville council seats, taking nearly 23% of more than 20,000 votes in Tuesday’s election.
He will be joined by incumbent Republican Jason Lemak (21%), newcomer and Republican Michael Korns (20%) and incumbent Republican Jamie Lingg (18.5%).
“This is a victory for our Murrysville community who want to see our hometown grow responsibly for the next generation,” Miller said. “Our incumbents who have retained their seats will be looked at for experienced leadership alongside us.”
All of the candidates for council stressed the importance of developing Murrysville’s comprehensive plan, a planning document that helps guide a town’s overall direction during the next five to 10 years.
“I find solace knowing that all of us who were elected are on the same page,” Miller said. “We all want the same thing for Murrysville, we’re all longtime residents and we want the best for our community and families. As we move through this comprehensive plan process, we’ll be looking to longtime council members for their experience, and to new members for their ideas. I feel great that we’re all moving in the same direction.”
Korns said he’s looking forward to council working together “to do what’s best for Murrysville.”
“I’m sure there will be disagreements over some issues,” he said. “There are a few different perspectives and I don’t think that’s a bad thing. When you’re doing the comprehensive plan, it’s important to hear a lot of voices, not just from council but the community and our volunteer boards. The goal is, we want to come together with an idea of where we want to go in the next ten years, and that can’t just come from one perspective.”
Former councilman Loren Kase finished fifth, coming away with just under 18% of the vote.
Council members serve a four-year term.
In the municipality’s mayoral race, councilman Dayne Dice received more than 98% of the votes cast for mayor. He ran unopposed.
