Today, Oct. 10, is World Mental Health Day. It was established by the World Federation for Mental Health in 1992 to raise global awareness and support for all things related to mental health.

As a now-retired counselor in the field for many decades, I have seen how mental health funding is not a priority of Congress. I don’t have to go into details about how mental health gets nothing more than an “Oh, no, we are sorry this happened” from Congress. It’s long overdue that someone in Congress makes mental health funding a priority. Congress, put the money where your words are!

One in 5 U.S. adults experiences mental health issues yearly. One in 6 U.S. youth ages 6-17 experiences a mental health disorder yearly.

Parents: It’s 2025. Do you know where your child’s head is?

Please wear green today to show your solidarity for mental health awareness. And please contact Congress and plead for funding for mental health issues.
