Civics is a subject that used to be taught in school about how the government works. It needs to be revisited.

I am writing this because of the things I have been hearing about the fireman’s tax possibilities in West Leechburg.

If you don’t like what is happening you need to get involved and change it and/or those who are running the show.

When was the last time you spoke to a council member? And expressed your views on the community? Do you even know who your council is? Yeah, it’s a lot of the same folks because so few care; until the seven members who were elected do something you don’t like.

Mostly do you know the steps to get on the ballot? Or at least go to the monthly meetings which are the second Wednesday of each month (and it’s in the paper if they have to change the date)?

If you don’t like the way it’s going, get your butt involved, not just your mouth.

I am speaking from experience. I did 12 years on the zoning hearing board and my husband did 19 on council. We stepped back because of our ages to let younger folks get involved. Where are you?

You are the community, get involved.
