ESPN play-by-play announcer Jon “Boog” Sciambi shared a sad-but-true fact about the Cincinnati Reds’ postseason history during Game 1 of their National League wild-card series against the Los Angeles Dodgers at Dodger Stadium.
Sciambi said during the broadcast that it was the 98th playoff game in Reds’ franchise history, and only the second time Cincinnati allowed four home runs in a game.
Sciambi added that the other four-homer game by a Reds’ opponent came in Game 3 of the 1939 World Series, when they were swept by the New York Yankees.
Shohei Ohtani hit his second home run of the game, the Dodgers’ fifth, a short time later.
Reds starter Hunter Greene gave up the first three Los Angeles homers of the game, and reliever Connor Phillips gave up the fourth and fifth.
