A warning to all anglers, conservationists and nature lovers: Stay out of Dawson Run, Deer Creek and Bull Creek moving forward. And keep your pets and children out of there, too, because those waterways are about to suffer the impact of yet another natural gas well.

On Aug. 6, the Department of Environmental Protection received a permit application (Caro Brandon 18117 4H well permit) filed by the omnipresent Range Resources Appalachia LLC in advance of the proposed well project slated for West Deer Township, affecting Middlesex, Clinton and West Deer townships in Allegheny and Butler counties.

Range Resources’ response to the DEP, provided to me, when concerns were raised about clean air and water, was as follows: “Surface runoff from the proposed well site location managed by approved erosion control and stormwater features will be directed to unnamed tributaries to Bull Creek and Dawson Run … .”

It’s the age-old American saga of greed versus nature. If you love your region and wish to protect nature, let your voice be heard. But do not expect business (Range Resources LLC) or government (EPA, DEP) to lend you a hand.

If you love clean waterways — speak out!
