A man hit by a pickup truck clearing snow from a Hempfield orthopedics office parking lot Monday morning is expected to survive his injuries, according to state Trooper Steve Limani.

The 74-year-old man was walking in the parking lot on Pellis Road just before 8 a.m. when a Chevrolet Silverado, being operated by Westmoreland Landscapes, hit him. Police said the truck, which was equipped with a snow plow and salt spreader, was in reverse at the time and hit the man with its back end.

“It was on private property, and it was a private company that was hired to clear the lot,” Limani said.

The driver, a 27-year-old man, stayed at the scene and cooperated with police, he said. Anyone with video surveillance of the incident is asked to contact troopers at 724-832-3288.

“As drivers in parking lots and as pedestrian in parking lots, we just really need to be cognizant of what’s happening around us,” Limani said.
