During the summer, Ross Township showcased its impressive array of community parks with a series of Neighborhood Days.

The final one took place Aug. 24 at Evergreen Park, with activities taking place against the picturesque backdrop of the Sgt. Frank Zotter Community Pond, named for the late township police officer who founded the fishing tournament that takes place there each year.

Organized by Ross Township Parks and Recreation, Evergreen’s Neighborhood Day featured live music by the Spitvalves, a talented horn-based band of local students, along with opportunities for guests to receive airbrushed tattoos, have their caricatures drawn and partake of offerings from food trucks.

Commissioner Denise Rickenbrode, who represents the ward in which the park is located, attended to share information about the township’s partnership with the Allegheny Land Trust to acquire property near the Ross municipal center as perpetual green space.

State Rep. Emily Kinkead, D-Brighton Heights, was on hand with canine pal Una to share what her office can do for local residents. And Casey Hausner, director of parks and recreation, was ready to greet visitors while making sure the event ran smoothly.

On Oct. 19, Evergreen Park will be the site for a fall foliage hike. And on Oct. 26, a Trunk or Treat and Halloween Movie Night is scheduled at the Ross Community Center, sponsored by the Seville Volunteer Fire Company Ladies Auxiliary, township police department, and the parks and recreation department.
