North Hills Community Outreach and the Northgate High School cross country team will run the streets of Bellevue and Avalon on Aug. 10 in support of helping people in the local area.
The North Boroughs 5K is a partnership between the local nonprofit and the runners that raises money for both organizations.
With offices in Avalon, McCandless and Millvale, North Hills Community Outreach focuses on providing emergency services, case management and assistance for older adults across the North Hills region.
“We have seen increased need since 2020,” Lizzy Zimmerman, director of development and communications, said. “Many families are trying to make ends meet, with their money not going nearly as far. We are here to make sure families stay fed, that roofs stay above their heads, and anyone who is experiencing crisis, hardship or poverty has somewhere to turn.”
Last year, NHCO provided more than 23,000 services to individuals and families, including free tax services, transportation assistance, senior services, and emergency food, rent and utility assistance,.
This marks the fourth year of the collaboration between NHCO and Northgate’s cross country team.
“It’s incredible to see the community come together to not only support NHCO, but the local school district and its students,” said development coordinator Abby Kelly, who is chairing the event. “Last year’s event was the most successful 5K we have planned, and we know 2024 will be even better.”
Registration is open and sponsorships are available at a variety of levels at NHCO.org/north-boroughs-5k. Event sponsors include Pittsburgh Regional Transit, Bona Fide Bellevue, the Branding Agency, Debonis Dentistry, Goodrich and Associates, PSquare Scents, Regina Coeli Parish, Tthe Shamrock Companies, Superior Sign Service and Neely Funeral Home.
