The Friends of the Monroeville Public Library will host an art exhibit by Gateway School District students grades kindergarten through 12 at the Elaine Biondi Gallery Space March 1 - 26.

The show is organized by Gateway High School Visual Arts Department chair Greta Severson.

“The annual Gateway School District art show is a long-held tradition that dates back nearly 20 years. The art show began as a collaboration between the Monroeville Public Library and Gateway art teachers to promote Youth Art Month,” Severson said.

Youth Art Month is celebrated nationally in March for schools to further develop and promote the arts.

“Having the opportunity to showcase student art at the library gallery elevates the experience for both students and teachers,” Severson said. “We are extremely proud of the work that our students create and hope to inspire artists of all ages to make art.”

In addition to the art show, the library friends group will hold a food drive March 1 – 22 to benefit the Gateway Backpack Program.

Collection boxes and lists of acceptable food items will be outside of the Gallery Space. The mission of the Backpack Program is to supply students in need with a backpack filled with nonperishable food items on Fridays to take home for the weekend.

For more information about the backpack program, contact Jennifer Hoffner, University Park Elementary School principal, at 412-372-5300.

The library is located at 4000 Gateway Campus Blvd.
