An Export man is accused of threatening relatives with guns and a machete before brandishing a gun in front of state police troopers responding to the disturbance Sunday.
State police filed numerous charges against 63-year-old Robert Deering.
According to state police, Deering was arguing with his daughter and son-in-law after yelling at his grandson for waking him up. He then grabbed a rifle and said he was going shooting.
After his daughter and son-in-law took the rifle from him, police said Deering pulled out a revolver and threatened to shoot them if he didn’t get the rifle back.
After they disarmed him again, police said Deering retrieved a machete from his room and chased them around the house, threatening to hurt them if he didn’t get his guns back. Deering threw the machete at the woman then grabbed his son-in-law’s revolver, loaded it and threatened to shoot him if he didn’t get his guns and machete back, police said.
The woman locked herself in a bedroom while the man and his son hid in a truck in the driveway, police said.
Deering was brandishing a revolver when state troopers arrived, which police said he put down after arguing.
Deering is charged with two counts each of aggravated assault, simple assault, reckless endangerment, terroristic threats and harassment. He is also charged with resisting arrest, according to court records.
He was arraigned Sunday and taken to the Westmoreland County Prison on $50,000 bail.
Deering’s preliminary hearing is scheduled for Feb. 20 before District Judge Cheryl Peck Yakopec.
