Pittsburgh-based Primanti Bros. Restaurant & Bar chain wants to use a liquor license from Mt. Pleasant at the restaurant it plans to open in North Huntingdon.

The North Huntingdon Township commissioners have scheduled a public hearing for 6:30 p.m,. Feb. 21 to take comments and receive testimony about Primanti’s request to transfer the liquor license from the closed Leo & Sons Grille 31 to the Primanti’s site on Mills Drive in the Huntingdon Marketplace shopping complex. The commissioners could take a vote on whether to approve the liquor license transfer at its monthly meeting, which begins at 7 p.m. Feb. 21.

Leo & Sons’ had used the liquor license at its West Main Street site in downtown Mt. Pleasant, but that restaurant closed in October 2022. The Pennsylvania Liquor Control Board classifies the license as being for restaurants and its current status as being is in “safekeeping.”

Adam Golomb, chief executive of Primanti Bros., could not be reached for comment.

North Huntingdon officials approved plans from Colony Realty Associates L.P. of North Huntingdon, to construct a four-story office building along Mills Drive.

Primanti Bros. Restaurant & Bar would occupy part of the first floor of the 29,000-square-foot office building, said Donald Tarosky Jr., a partner and developer in the parent firm of Colony Realty.

Primanti Bros. has 41 locations in Pennsylvania, Ohio and West Virginia, but the North Huntingdon site will be its second location in Westmoreland County, according to the map on its website. The company has a restaurant on East Pittsburgh Street in Hempfield.
