Pitt fills its long snapper vacancy with Nilay Upadhyayula, formerly of UConn

Pitt received its second verbal commitment from the transfer portal Wednesday when former UConn long snapper Nilay Upadhyayula announced on X (formerly Twitter) his plans to enroll next year.
Upadhyayula, a native of San Jose, Calif., who attended IMG Academy in Bradenton, Fla., follows former Nebraska cornerback Tamon Lynum to Pitt. Lynum announced his commitment Sunday.

A total of 12 Pitt players who were on scholarship entered the portal since the end of the season. The list includes Byron Floyd, who was Pitt’s long snapper the past two seasons. Floyd has transferred to Buffalo.
Linebacker Brandon George and defensive end Nate Temple entered the portal at the end of the season, but they announced Sunday that they plan to return to Pitt in 2024.
Upadhyayula (5-foot-11, 231 pounds) was UConn’s regular long snapper this season, recording three tackles (one solo) in his redshirt sophomore year. He participated in four games in 2021, but did not appear in any in 2022.
