Two longtime incumbents and a 22-year-old newcomer were victorious Tuesday in the East Deer commissioners election.

Anthony Taliani, 75, a 51-year incumbent, was the top vote-getter among the five candidates, notching 202 votes, or 23.68%, according to unofficial results from the Allegheny County Elections Department.

Newcomer Jacob Leonard Gigler had the second-highest vote total with 180, or 21.10%. Incumbent Rick Stoneburner, 57, rounded out the winners with 169 votes, or 19.81%.

The township’s auditor, Jennifer Savka, 40, missed a commissioner seat by three votes, notching 166 votes, or 19.46%. Volunteer firefighter Joseph S. Pomaybo finished with 133 votes, or 15.59%.

Commissioner John Nwranski did not seek reelection. Commissioner Joseph E. Novosat, a Democrat, was unopposed for reelection to his 1st Ward seat.

Taliani, a Democrat and retired teacher, was first elected in 1971. He touted his experience and recent business developments in the township in a pre-election interview with the Trib.

Gigler, a Republican and support analyst for PWCampbell Contracting, sought public office for the first time. He sought a commissioner seat upon hearing that Nwranski would be leaving.

Stoneburner is a Democrat and has been an East Deer commissioner for 20 years. He is an auditor for PennDOT.

All are East Deer natives.

The only seat that wasn’t up for election is the one held by Edward Kissel, who has been in office since 2006 and represents the township’s 2nd Ward.
