Deer Lakes School District voters selected three Democrats and two Republicans on Tuesday to fill five open seats on the school board.
Incumbent Democrat Cristy McCloskey led the seven-person race with 2,714 votes, or 16.89%, according to unofficial election results from the Allegheny County Elections Department.
Others who secured seats were Democrat James Calvert with 2,458 votes, or 15.29%; Republican Leonard Verdetto III with 2,400 votes, or 14.93%; Republican Pietro Porco with 2,385 votes, or 14.84%; and incumbent Democrat Larry Neidig with 2,354 votes, or 14.65%.
Just missing seats were Democrat Susan Claus with 2,022 votes, or 12.58%, and Phillip Ziendarski with 1,676 votes, or 10.43%.
McCloskey, 50, is a computer science teacher. Calvert, 66, is a retired Deer Lakes School District technology employee and currently works as a real estate agent. Verdetto, 29, is a lab technician.
Porco, 47, is an electrical engineer. Neidig, 45, is a representative for the International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers, and Claus, 65, is a librarian at Northland Public Library.
The district includes West Deer, Frazer and East Deer townships.
