The Pittsburgh Penguins on Saturday hired former Senators general manager Trent Mann as a player development and scouting adviser.
Mann, 50, had previously been a member of the Senators front office since 2011, primarily in an amateur scouting capacity. Initially hired as an amateur scout, was promoted to director of amateur scouting in 2017 then assistant general manager in 2022. Since 2017, he largely ran the Senators’ drafts until leaving that organization this past July.
The circumstances of Mann’s departure from the Senators are unclear, but the franchise had several incumbents leave the front office this past offseason while in the midst of an ownership change.
During Mann’s time in overseeing the Senators’ draft, that franchise selected the likes of top-six forwards such as Drake Batherson, Tim Stutzle, and Brady Tkachuk, third-line forwards Ridley Greig and Shane Pinto and second pairing defenseman Jake Sanderson.
